What Are the Differences Between Disk Drill Basic, PRO, Expert and Enterprise?

We offer four different licenses to suit the needs of various users. Here is an overview of each type:

  1. Basic — The Basic version is free. It gives you all the functions of data protection and scanning, so that you can see which files can be found and preview them to verify that they are recoverable. But you must upgrade your license to actually recover any files found, except when using Recovery Vault and Guaranteed Protection. The Basic edition is for personal use only, on computers that you own.
  2. PRO — The PRO edition is for personal use only. It provides full functionality and allows you to recover files found with any scanning method. It allows you to install Disk Drill only on Macs that you own and can only be used to recover data from hard drives and other media that belong to you. It cannot be used for money-making purposes.
  3. Expert (no longer offered) — This is a commercial license that allows you to install Disk Drill and recover files on your own Macs and also those of your clients, friends or family. However, this license is limited to one user, so you must be the one to actually use Disk Drill and perform the file scanning and recovery tasks. Once data recovery is complete, you must uninstall Disk Drill PRO from any computer that your company does not own (but you can install Disk Drill Basic for ongoing data protection). If you own the Expert edition, you are eligible for a free upgrade to Disk Drill Enterprise. Email us to request it.
  4. Enterprise — Like the Expert edition, this is a commercial license that allows you to install Disk Drill and recover files on any Mac, anywhere. The advantage of this edition is that it allows multiple users — any employee in your company can use Disk Drill. They can use it on all of your company’s computers and your client’s computers. Once data recovery is complete, you must uninstall Disk Drill PRO from any computer your company does not own (but you can install Disk Drill Basic for ongoing data protection).
