To use this method you must have a backup in place. If you don\u2019t, that is fine. Simply move onto the next method as there are other ways that we can recover them.<\/p>\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT201250\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Time Machine<\/a> comes built into macOS for free and it allows you to back up the data on your Mac. Time Machine will keep the following:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>Local snapshots<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Hourly backups<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Daily backups for the past month<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Weekly backups for all previous months<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>Using Time Machine to recover screen recordings is easy and it only takes a couple of steps.<\/p>\r\n<ol>\r\n\t<li>Plug your external hard drive into your Mac.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Launch Spotlight by pressing the keys <kbd>COMMAND+SPACE BAR<\/kbd>. I love Time Machine and I\u2019ve been using it for a while now at this point.<\/p>\r\n<p>No one ever thinks that data loss is going to happen to them so it\u2019s always a good idea to back up your Mac and make sure that your data is safe. Not to mention that it also just gives you relief that you always have the ability to go back and recover a file should you need to.<\/p>\r\n<h2 class=\"title_sc_bg\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"method_3_recovering_screen_recordings_without_a_backup\"><\/span><span class=\"title_shortcode_bg\">Method 3:<\/span> Recovering Screen Recordings Without a Backup<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p>If you don\u2019t back up your Mac, don\u2019t worry as we can try and recover screen recordings without having a backup in place. This can be done by using third-party data recovery software.<\/p>\r\n<p><a href=\"\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Disk Drill<\/a> will allow you to recover data on your Mac even if you don\u2019t have a backup in place. I have a long history of using Disk Drill and I can\u2019t recommend it enough. Some of my favorite features when it comes to using it are:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>Easy to use and understand interface that actually makes sense.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Powerful data recovery that can scan and find pretty much any data format that has ever existed.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>It works on the newer Macs with Apple Silicon inside.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Reliable, robust, and the app doesn&#8217;t crash.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Affordable and comes with more features than just data recovery.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<div class=\"alert alert-info\" role=\"alert\">We can use Disk Drill to scan our Mac, find the deleted screen recordings, and view them all for free. Now that we\u2019ve recovered our screen recordings on our Mac, let\u2019s talk about what we can do to prevent us from losing them in the future.<\/p>\r\n<h2 class=\"title_sc_bg\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"tip_1_how_to_save_your_screen_recordings_with_time_machine\"><\/span><span class=\"title_shortcode_bg\">Tip #1:<\/span> How to Save Your Screen Recordings With Time Machine<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p>We talked about recovering files from a Time Machine backup above. If you didn\u2019t happen to have a backup in place, that\u2019s okay as we will show you how to create one so that if you lose data in the future the recovery process will be much easier.<\/p>\r\n<div class=\"alert alert-success\" role=\"alert\">To use Time Machine you need an external hard drive. You can get these pretty much anywhere. I purchased mine online and it\u2019s pretty inexpensive. You don\u2019t need the fastest most expensive one to use Time Machine, just a slower hard drive will take longer.<\/div>\r\n<p>Now let\u2019s walk through how to use Time Machine to make sure that our data is saved from here on out.<\/p>\r\n<ol>\r\n\t<li>Plug your external hard drive into your Mac.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Launch System Preferences and then go to Time Machine.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Select the external hard drive that you\u2019ve plugged into your Mac and give it a name, mine is called \u201cBackup Drive\u201d.<img class=\"border-gray border-radius-10 alignnone wp-image-43688 size-full\" src=\"\/howto\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/time-machine-1.jpg\" alt=\"time machine\" width=\"1892\" height=\"1358\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cleverfiles.com\/howto\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/time-machine-1.jpg 1892w, https:\/\/www.cleverfiles.com\/howto\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/time-machine-1-300x215.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cleverfiles.com\/howto\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/time-machine-1-500x359.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.cleverfiles.com\/howto\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/time-machine-1-768x551.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.cleverfiles.com\/howto\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/time-machine-1-1536x1102.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1892px) 100vw, 1892px\" \/><\/li>\r\n\t<li>Wait for the backup to complete.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<p>I would recommend that you back up your Mac once a week or anytime that you make huge changes to the files that are on it or work on something super important that is stored locally on your Mac.<\/p>\r\n<p>We can also use the Byte-to-byte backup feature as well to save our data. This is found within Disk Drill which is the data recovery app that we used earlier in the article to recover our screen recordings.<\/p>\r\n<div class=\"alert alert-info\" role=\"alert\">Let\u2019s take another look at how to back up our data and save it so that we don\u2019t lose screen recordings in the future. This feature is free as well and it doesn&#8217;t cost you anything to use the backup feature.<\/div>\r\n<h2 class=\"title_sc_bg\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"tip_2_how_to_back_up_using_byte-to-byte_backup\"><\/span><span class=\"title_shortcode_bg\">Tip #2:<\/span> How to Back Up Using Byte-to-byte Backup<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p>Backing up our data using Byte-to-byte backup is free and doesn&#8217;t cost you anything. Not to mention that it\u2019s super easy to use and it won\u2019t take you hardly any time at all.<\/p>\r\n<ol>\r\n\t<li><a href=\"\/download.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Download<\/a> and install Disk Drill onto your Mac.
