To provide an honest review, I tested the Ontrack EasyRecovery first-hand by deleting:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li><b>Three TXT files<\/b> &#8211; All text files contain lorem ipsum. File names include \u201cMeeting Notes\u201d, School Document\u201d, and \u201cWork Document\u201d<\/li>\r\n\t<li><b>Three JPG files<\/b> &#8211; Stock photos that include file names \u201cLake\u201d, \u201cMountains\u201d, and \u201cOcean\u201d.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>Not only did I delete them, but I also emptied the Recycle Bin to permanently delete them. My goal is to recover them using Ontrack EasyRecovery\u2019s recovery capabilities.<\/p>\r\n<div style=\"background-color: #ebf7f0; padding: 25px 25px 5px 20px; margin-bottom: 35px; margin-top: 0px;\">The latest version of Ontrack Easy Recovery is 15.0.0.0. The free version allows you to recover up to 1GB of data for free (each file must be under 25MB). They also don\u2019t have the same file names, which is to be expected after recovering permanently deleted files. Disappointingly, even checking the original folders where the files were deleted from in the recovery window yielded no results.<\/p>\r\n<p>However, although it didn\u2019t recover the files I was specifically hoping to recover, it was able to discover files that I had deleted over four months back. This was a big red flag for me, as it seems completely unnecessary. In my opinion, it\u2019s enough to deter a visitor and push them to a competitor. I would much prefer to be able to download the trial directly from the website.<\/p>\r\n<p>However, everything else in terms of user interface and experience is actually pretty good. The interface is simple, attractive, and super easy to navigate. I didn\u2019t struggle to find anything during my time using the software. It was also very fast, even with a Deep Scan. The scan process took less than 5 minutes for me when deep scanning a 500GB partition on a 1TB SSD.<\/p>\r\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"security_and_privacy\"><\/span>Security and Privacy<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p>Ontrack\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontrack.com\/en-nz\/security\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">security page<\/a> goes into detail about how much it prioritizes security. In addition to supporting Ontrack EasyRecovery, Ontrack manages its own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontrack.com\/en-nz\/data-recovery\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">data recovery service<\/a>. Therefore, security is of utmost importance as they\u2019re handling data from individuals, as well as corporations.<\/p>\r\n<p>Being ISO\/IEC 27001 and SOC 2-certified is an indication that security is taken seriously and it\u2019s safe to assume this approach carries over to Ontrack EasyRecovery. During the checkout process, you\u2019re protected by SSL to prevent anyone from snooping on your connection.
