While we are doing our best to maintain a high quality of our releases and patch our code whenever we discover new bugs, sometimes there may be a need to troubleshoot Disk Drill with the help of our respected users. When talking to our tech support team, they may send you a request for internal\u00a0Disk Drill’s\u00a0log files from your computer. Here’s how to get them.<\/p>\n

<\/span>🍏 Disk Drill for macOS – internal logs<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

<\/span>#1. If there’s no crash – Console method<\/use><\/svg><\/a><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Getting activity logs without launching Disk Drill:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Launch Applications -> Utilities -> Console<\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. Among the options in the left sidebar, click the arrow next to Log Reports<\/strong> (“~\/Library\/Logs<\/i>” in macOS 10.14 and older) and find the file called DiskDrill.log<\/strong>.\"find<\/li>\n
  3. Click\u00a0Share<\/b> button in the top panel. Select the Mail<\/strong> option and send the log by email to help@cleverfiles.com<\/a>\"share\n
    💡 Alternatively, select the option Reveal In Finder<\/strong> by right-clicking DiskDrill.log<\/b> file, attach that file to an email, and send it to\u00a0help@cleverfiles.com<\/a><\/div>\n

  4. Now locate another log in the same window: highlight\u00a0Log Reports<\/strong> (“~\/Library\/Logs<\/i>” in macOS 10.14 and older)\u00a0then find cfbackd.log<\/strong> file and send\/attach it in the same way as explained above.\"Find<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

    <\/span>#2. If there’s no crash \u2013 Disk Drill method <\/use><\/svg><\/a><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

    Getting activity logs within Disk Drill:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Launch Disk Drill application.<\/li>\n
    2. Choose Disk Drill<\/strong> on the main menu bar at the top of your screen. You should see options for Disk Drill Log<\/strong> and Recovery Vault Log<\/strong> options.\"find<\/li>\n
    3. Select each of them separately. A Console window will open for each one.<\/li>\n
    4. Locate each file by using “Reveal in Finder” option.<\/li>\n
    5. Email each log to help@cleverfiles.com<\/a> as shown in steps #3 and #4 in the section above (#1. Console method<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
      Please send “DiskDrill.log” or “cfbackd.log” file as an attachment, do not paste it into an email<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

      <\/span>#3. If Disk Drill app crashed – Crash reports for Disk Drill and Recovery Vault <\/use><\/svg><\/a><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

      If Disk Drill crashed, in addition<\/b> to activity logs, we’ll also need the following crash reports:<\/p>\n

      Crash reports for Disk Drill or Recovery Vault:<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. Launch Applications -> Utilities -> Console<\/strong><\/li>\n
      2. Among the options in the left sidebar, click the arrow next to Crash Reports<\/strong> (“User Reports<\/i>” in macOS 10.14 and older).\"find<\/li>\n
      3. Now find the file with the name containing or matching “Disk Drill”<\/strong> and\/or \u201c\u0441fbackd\u201d<\/strong> (“Disk Drill_<date>_<computer name>.crash”<\/i> in macOS 10.14 and older).\u00a0Click the Share<\/b> button in the top panel, select the\u00a0Mail<\/b>\u00a0option and send the log to the same email address<\/a>.\"send\n
        💡 Alternatively, select the option\u00a0Reveal In Finder<\/strong> by right-clicking the needed file and attaching it to an email, then send it to our tech team<\/a>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n
      4. Another option is to just email us<\/a> all the crash logs with the name \u201cDiskDrill\u201d from the following folders:\n
        \/Users\/<username>\/Library\/Logs\/DiagnosticReports\/<\/strong> (for GUI logs)\r\nand\u00a0\r\n\/Library\/Logs\/DiagnosticReports<\/strong> (for daemon's logs)<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n
      5. If Disk Drill freezes or hangs, please provide a sample and spindump of the Disk Drill process<\/a> so we can troubleshoot the issue.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

        <\/span>#1. Locating dd.log <\/use><\/svg><\/a><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

        The internal log files for the Windows edition of Disk Drill can be accessed from the main app’s window:<\/p>\n
        \"Log<\/p>\n
        Click or tap the “three dots<\/b>” Settings icon, and choose “Disk Drill logs<\/b>” in the menu that appears. This will open the log file in your default text editor, usually Notepad. In the opened text editor\/Notepad, click on “Save as<\/b>” button to save this file to your Desktop or elsewhere, and then you can email it to us<\/a> or attach in the chat window.<\/p>\n
        Alternatively, if you can’t or don’t want to access Disk Drill’s interface for any reason, you can always find the same log files in the following folder on your system disk:<\/p>\n
        C:\\Users\\{user name}\\AppData\\Local\\DiskDrill\\dd.log\r\nor \r\n%USERPROFILE%\\AppData\\Local\\DiskDrill\\dd.log<\/pre>\n
        The dd.log<\/strong> file is the one our Tech Assistance team will need.<\/p>\n
        Please send “dd.log” file as an attachment, do not paste it into an email<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
