The goal for this mechanism is to optimize your data recovery experience and make it substantially faster. After it finds a potentially recoverable file during a scan, Disk Drill checks whether the files&#8217; contents are intact and were not overwritten with any unrelated data. Files like this receive the top level of recovery chances (i.e. labeled with a gray-filled star, the chances are High). In case Disk Drill detects the file content has been altered in some way, the app applies deep analysis to such a file to evaluate its integrity and assign the appropriate estimate to it.<\/p>\n<p>This algorithm is enabled by default.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"alert alert-info\" role=\"alert\">&#x1f4a1; You can easily disable it in Disk Drill\u2019s references by simply unticking the box next to the &#8220;Calculate recovery chances at scan completion&#8221; option.<\/div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"are_recovery_chances_in_disk_drill_helpful\"><\/span><b>Are recovery chances in Disk Drill helpful?<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If recovery chances are enabled in Preferences, whenever you perform a lost data scan, Disk Drill will not only show you what files it can recover, their types, modification date and preview, but will also do its best to predict how likely certain files are to be recovered in their original form, i.e. intact and not corrupted.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to see the chances of recovery for files in a certain folder, open it in order to see the status for each recoverable file.<\/p>\n<p>Being able to estimate the recovery chances for the found files can help you paint a better picture, especially when you have a great amount of files and simply cannot preview each and every one of them.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"recovery_chances_levels_statuses_and_what_they_mean\"><\/span><b>Recovery chances levels, statuses, and what they mean<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Disk Drill calculates the chances after it\u2019s done with every step of the lost data scan. Until the scan has been completed you can see the &#8220;<b>Waiting\u2026<\/b>&#8221; status in the recovery chances field. The status changes to &#8220;<b>Calculating&#8230;<\/b>&#8221; as Disk Drill has completed the scan and prepares the recovery chances estimation for you.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"alert alert-info\" role=\"alert\">&#x1f4a1; Some scans might take a while depending on how many files you are scanning for and which scan types you are using. Adding estimation of chances will take a little bit as well, so be prepared to wait for Disk Drill to process everything thoroughly.<\/div>\n<p>The estimated recovery chances are comprehensively marked for easy distinction:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<li><svg width=\"18\" height=\"18\" class=\"icon\"><use xlink:href=\"#high\"><\/use><\/svg> &#8211; <b>High or Empty file<\/b> recovery chances are marked with gray-filled star.<\/li>\n<li><svg width=\"18\" height=\"18\" class=\"icon\"><use xlink:href=\"#average\"><\/use><\/svg> &#8211; <b>Average<\/b> recovery chances: half-filled star.<\/li>\n<li><svg width=\"18\" height=\"18\" class=\"icon\"><use xlink:href=\"#low\"><\/use><\/svg> &#8211; <b>Low<\/b>: empty (white) star.<\/li>\n<li><svg width=\"18\" height=\"18\" class=\"icon\"><use xlink:href=\"#unknown\"><\/use><\/svg> &#8211; When chances are <b>Unknown<\/b>, they are labeled with a question mark.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"use_hints_to_know_more_about_the_recovery_chances_for_your_files\"><\/span><b>Use hints to know more about the recovery chances for your files<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Chances marked with one of the stars will also have one of the two possible hints depending on the data Disk Drill is able to collect about a file. Just point your mouse cursor on the status and hover there for a bit to see the hint:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><svg width=\"18\" height=\"18\" class=\"icon\"><use xlink:href=\"#high\"><\/use><\/svg> Filled star\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<li>#1 Hint &#8211; Recovery chances for this file are excellent<\/li>\n<li>#2 Hint &#8211; Recovery chances for this file are high<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><svg width=\"18\" height=\"18\" class=\"icon\"><use xlink:href=\"#average\"><\/use><\/svg> Half-filled star\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<li>#1 Hint &#8211; Recovery chances for this file are above average<\/li>\n<li>#2 Hint &#8211; Recovery chances for this file are average<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><svg width=\"18\" height=\"18\" class=\"icon\"><use xlink:href=\"#low\"><\/use><\/svg> Empty (white) star\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<li>#1 Hint &#8211; Recovery chances for this file are below average<\/li>\n<li>#2 Hint &#8211; Recovery chances for this file are low<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You can sort your scan results according to recovery chances.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"alert alert-info\" role=\"alert\">&#x1f4a1; <b>Hint<\/b>: sort from High to Low if you want to easily select only those files that have higher chances of recovery.<\/div>\n<p>Or use filters to only see those files on the list that have the recovery chance level acceptable in your specific recovery scenario. Our usual recommendation to our users is trying to recover everything possible, right after the first scan. Time is always essential in data recovery, and the consequent scans may produce fewer recovery results.<\/p>\n<p><b>The recoverable files can be filtered by the following criteria:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;<b>Minimum file size<\/b>&#8220;. Use it when you don&#8217;t want to even try to recover files that are explicitly small and definitely won&#8217;t contain the amount of data they should contain;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;<b>Deleted within the last<\/b>&#8220;. You can use this filter to recover the files that were deleted recently and not bother to recover something that was removed months ago;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;<b>Recovery chances<\/b>&#8220;. Select the recovery chance level in order to concentrate recovery efforts on those files that are more likely to restore.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"alert alert-info\" role=\"alert\">&#x1f4a1; <b>NB<\/b>: If there are files that are marked with low or unknown chances, but you consider them of the utmost importance, we would recommend still trying for those files. Use Disk Drill&#8217;s Preview option to determine whether the file can be recovered and in what state.<\/div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"what_scan_should_i_use_to_see_the_recovery_chances_for_my_files\"><\/span><b>What scan should I use to see the recovery chances for my files?<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Disk Drill calculates recovery chances and lists them accordingly when the following scans are performed:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>All recovery methods (the default full\/recommended type of scan)<\/li>\n<li>Quick Scan (included in All recovery methods)<\/li>\n<li>Deep Scan (also performed as part of the full scan)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div class=\"alert alert-warning\" role=\"alert\">&#x26a0;&#xfe0f; <b>NOTE<\/b>: We don\u2019t recommend interrupting a scan. Also, please, use all recovery methods for the best results and recovery chances prediction accuracy. When different scans are executed as part of the \u201cAll recovery methods\u201d option, they complement each other and run in optimal order to maximize your data recovery rate.<\/div>\n<p>Please note that estimated recovery chances are exactly that &#8211; an estimate. Even though we pride ourselves on making quite accurate predictions in Disk Drill, there is no 100% guarantee that Disk Drill will recover a file in its original state even if its chances for successful recovery are High.
