Hi there, which version of Disk Drill are you running? What’s the file system on the disk being scanned? What exactly do you mean by “all the empty space was mapped”?

The “walking over journal” status hanging there for an hour or more is not normal, but the scanning speed overall may highly depend on the target drive’s condition.

Can you send us your full Disk Drill log after the error? Here’s how:

By this time you might have probably finished the scan and know the results. However, the answer here (which I believe you had already received from our support team) would be kind of universal: every recovery case is absolutely unique. There are no general rules that will help YOU retrieve more of YOUR files from YOUR computer. The less you write to your drive after the files got lost, the more you can recover. Then the main rule would be – download Disk Drill, let it scan your storage, and show you what’s recoverable. Hope this helps.

Dear JPHale, what will be your system specs (OS X version, Disk Drill version and build number, etc.)?
Also, have you already sent your internal log files to us?
Do you still experience this issue if you completely disable data protection in Disk Drill? Finally, here’s the recommendation given to you by Kim in January, I can’t find any updates from you on this: Please delete “.cleverfiles” folder and restart your Mac. Let us know if the problem persists.

in reply to: Disk Drill Recovery Size? #6556

Hi, the size glitch may take place when some of the found items produce incorrect size estimates. Or if there are lost partitions available for recovery, those may be large, and there can be many (though some of them probably corrupted). This is going to be improved in Disk Drill 3, btw.

In your case, you should not recover everything found, instead sort by estimated size, and exclude the files that are obviously not what you were looking for. Most probably, these are a couple found partitions, so you should be able to exclude the whole category of found items, and easily decrease the total recoverable size.

8 days ago, we responded to your email with this:

Thank you for contacting us. We have reset activations for your activation codes.

in reply to: Saved session #6492

Of course. That’s exactly what the scanning sessions are for. You can either load the one that you saved yourself, or just “resume last recovery” from the main screen.

in reply to: Only half of recovery successful #6491

Sometimes the recovery ends up with less data recovered than found. While scanning, Disk Drill predicts the size of the recoverable items. While recovering it verifies it as it goes byte-by-byte and it may occur that a file may end sooner than predicted. Hope it helps.

    Google for it…

Here’s one of the suggestions I found at Apple forums: simply drag the .emix file to the relevant .mbox at Home > Library > Mail > Mailboxes.

We cannot verify if it works or not at the moment.

Hi again, your order was only processed on Dec 28th, we’ll resend it now.

Why don’t you mount the found items as a disk and do everything you listed in this topic?

    Here’s how: /help/how-do-i-mount-scanning-results-as-a-disk-and-recover-from-it/

The date filter will only work for files that have the timestamp. Those files that are recoverable with Deep Scan don’t have that info.

in reply to: Auto updates not working #6468

Please hang on there a bit more… maybe one more update before we switch to Disk Drill 3, and we’ll be glad to help you out from there. Email me directly at for a small bonus.

in reply to: Problems recovering a HFS+ partition #6450

Do you see the newly rebuilt partition in Disk Drill now? Also, before we proceed with troubleshooting this, I recommend copying out the data from the found partition asap, through Disk Drill.

Hm, which version of Disk Drill are you running now?
