I’ve looked multiple places and am unable to tell if Disk Drill can scan the disk it is installed on? If I want to scan my primary computer that DD is installed upon, can that be accomplished? Some recovery software in the past required installation on an external source to scan the primary drive.
Addendum: I just downloaded Disk Drill and it looks like it is possible. Cool! Please correct me if I’m wrong.
Thanks!October 28, 2010 at 2:36 am #4560
It is definitely possible. However, you should know that if there’s any lost data on your main hard drive, and you install software on it, or copy new data, or actively use it, the chances are your data may be overwritten and thus lost forever.October 28, 2010 at 2:19 pm #4562
Have done some testing on this and providing you want to recover something you have only just deleted then the chances of recovering your data are very good.October 28, 2010 at 2:51 pm #4563
That’s true. And you are right, this is the basic rule of every data recovery task: do it as fast after data loss as you can. No need to mention here that if your main disk was protected with Recovery Vault, and you act fast, recovery chances are very very high!October 31, 2010 at 4:57 am #4564
Recovery Vault does improve the chances of recovery even further as JR says. I have tried various tests using Recovery Vault and not using it. My personal recommendation is to ensure that you are using it.December 26, 2010 at 6:50 pm #4602
appreciate the feedback. Sorry I’m just getting back with you, but have had many reasons why I haven’t had time to be on my computer much (work, health issues, death in the family, holidays, etc., etc.)
