hi… i accidentally formatted a 1TB external HD… by the time i realized i was formatting the wrong drive it started already. so i pulled the cable and … well that’s what got me here. I used this software and its great. I was able to do the deep scan and actually recover most if not all and more of the pictures ever written in this HD… and i’ve been reading that’s its not possible to get your original filenames in deep scan. will this feature ever be added? i’m happy i got all my files back… but the dates and other details are gone. i have 150,000+ photos recovered and even thumbnail photos were recovered… great software…. but yah… original filenames and directories and the dates would really be nice.May 28, 2012 at 4:53 am #4931
First of all, thanks for sharing your success story.

Deep Scan cannot get the original filenames by design, since it’s Deep Scan, and it reconstructs files by their binary structure, when file system is no longer available. And, as you know, file names are mostly stored in file system. There is a specific scenario when Deep Scan would be able to retrieve the original file structure, this will happen if there are any remainders of the HFS catalog on the disk. But, frankly speaking, that’s a rare case.
