I have a Macbook Pro from 2010 which I recently updated to OS 10.9
For few days, the computer was running slow, and last night it was slower and after waiting for about 15 minutes for scrolling wheel, i powered off my computer.
The following morning the machine would not boot up. After few minutes of thinking (spinning wheel), the Disk Utility application was launched. I tried both verify disk and repair disk and both failed. I was able to launch the Terminal window, and could cd to /Volumes/Applications but could not cd to /Volumes/Users/shalab — it fails with Input/Output error. My friend took the internal drive and attached to his machine, and tried to cd to /Volumes/Users/shalab folder and he got additional information that .hotfilebtree file had InputOutput error.
Can Disk Drill help? I am not able to connect this macbook to internet either.
