Hi. I have a mostly full 650GB external USB hard drive that recently stopped mounting. I was trying to use Disk Drill to recover any data from it that I could. Though Disk Drill recognizes the disk, Deep Scan doesn’t seem to work. When I select this option, I get a loading bar that passes by so quickly I cannot read what it says. Then it takes me to the Deep Scan dialogue box and asks me where I’d like to save recovered files. I select a directory and nothing happens. Trying to Deep Scan my laptop hard drive seems to work just fine, but despite Disk Drill locating my external, Deep Scan seems to fail before it even begins. Am I doing something wrong?June 30, 2011 at 4:05 am #4739
Are you using the latest version of Disk Drill? What about other scanning methods?June 30, 2011 at 7:39 am #4740
I’m apparently using version 1.3.123 enterprise. I’m not sure what other scanning methods you refer to, but similar programs such as Data Rescue 3 and Disk Warrior yielded similar results.June 30, 2011 at 4:05 pm #4741
Similar results might be the explanation. The data is lost completely. But by other scanning methods I meant Quick Scan and Search for Lost Partitions, are these available?July 1, 2011 at 12:28 am #4742
I was able to search for lost partitions and that took awhile, but nothing was found. Quick scan I believe also failed. You might be right that nothing’s there. I find it hard to believe based on using the drive, but it could certainly be true.
