I formatted my hard disk (quick format) to install a fresh copy of Lion (2012). I forgot to back up the address book (wife’s.. she is mad). Apparently the file name for the address book is “AddressBook.data”. I am running the deep scan now… but file names are all filexxx etc.. How can I find the AddressBook.data? Please help…. wife mad. Thx in advance!

I don’t think that AddressBook’s database is among supported file types, sorry. The whole list for Deep Scan can be found here. In your case only Quick Scan or Search for Lost Partitions would help. However, Deep Scan may be able to locate your previous partition as well. Look for “Partitions” among your search results. If any are found, get back to the disk list in Disk Drill, find the virtual mounted partition, and quick-scan it.

A tiny update on this issue: the Address Book’s database actually has the following name AddressBook.abcddb and in fact it is a db3 file, meaning its structure IS supported by Deep Scan, but unfortunately Deep Scan cannot recover the original file names all the time. We might improve this for Address Book some day though. So in your case you should look for db3 files…
